lifejackets? where?

The European Union presently lacks too much to have serious chances against decline and eventual collapse. Some european states have more chances than others to withstand the shock, but the lack of common policy and able leaders, promotes convergence towards a non-existent median level in the Union. Pure chaos.

Its members are all looking for growth in a zero sum game, handcuffed by a common currency without common policy. It was a recipe for disaster and a good one at that. But no member can prosper for long if too many of its partners stumble.

Europe will eventually have to look for survival and growth in its relative strengths: Knowledge, technology, culture, variety... If its Union survives the next crisis or the one after that, it might have time to do what it takes to alter its course. The lack of any strategy beyond firefighting is as evident as is the need for strategic and tactical change, towards a viable European Union.
